I blogged last week that neither the Conservatives or Labour had yet set the terms of the debate for this campaign. Now, one week into the campaign, with their manifestos out, it feels to me that they have. That is the point of manifestos of course but in the ‘digital-social-media-24hr news’ age you might think that the manifesto is an outmoded deadweight. Don’t get me wrong, both are pretty impenetrable monologues, but at the same time they do manage to communicate the central thrust of what is being offered to the country - something which neither party has achieved so far. Labour screams...'Stick' with us, it is just too damn risky to try the other lot. And the Conservative version woos...go for it, what have you got to lose, 'Twist' , it is time to shake it up and try something new. For one I am pleased about this, we deserve a proper choice at this election and potentially now it is emerging. And in the next 48hrs there are will be more choice moments to help the choice decision: The Lib Dems – who through their success could offer real change in the shape of a hung Parliament – publish their manifesto tomorrow and the day after the first TV Leaders debates. At last this campaign is beginning to get going.
